For the Community

Story-Based training is available for businesses, organizations, and community groups interested in developing their collective story and learning how to build community dynamics.

“One of the most enduring parts of the Anne Frank Project training in storytelling and devised theater was the circle up routine that AFP taught me. It's astounding how difficult this simple activity can be for teenagers and even adults. But the work is essential to the spirit and substance of how we move forward as a village. Anne Frank Project taught me how to re-connect with a community in a way that costs nothing except our sustained attention to seeing each other in a circle as equals again.”

LEARN

The skillset used to create original stories is identical to those necessary for conflict management, community building, and the exploration of identity; all vital foundations in today’s business environments where internal employee cultures must mesh with external branding demands.

Our Story-Based approach teaches tangible skills and enhanced vocabulary that will impact the lives of your employees, your audiences, their families, and their communities. Instead of focusing on what you know, our methods focus on what you can do with what you know. This creative and collaborative process engages organizations in specific action steps that directly transfer to professional outcomes as well as the personal lives of your communities as you build your collective stories… together.

Let the Anne Frank Project help your organization tell their story.

The Anne Frank Project provides a platform for voices whose stories have been minimized by oppression.

EQUITY

Anne Frank and the millions of other ‘anne franks’ around the world have fought though unimaginable obstacles to tell their stories. We take this responsibility to heart in our work today.

AFP enthusiastically embraces individuals, groups, and organizations representing marginalized communities whose voices are too often muted or discarded. Stories belong to all of us. Our story-building process was intentionally created to be a physical illustration of complete, and total Equity; everyone matters and this equity is reinforced at each stage of the process.

AFP has deep histories working with organizations like People, Inc., Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, SUNY Offices of Accessibility, Roswell Cancer Institute, Venture Forthe (Traumatic Brain Injuries), Native American Community, New American communities, WNY Deaf Community, as well as many other physically and mentally challenged groups and individuals. We look forward to tailoring story-based experiences for EVERYONE.

GROW

Join one of the Anne Frank Project’s scheduled SBL training sessions at Buffalo State.

The Anne Frank Project facilitates regular two-day training sessions on the Buffalo State University campus every year in August. These professional development opportunities bring together educators, professionals, volunteers, and other community members interested in learning the story-based approach to bring back to their specific arenas.  Following these training sessions, follow-up sessions can be scheduled, tailored to each organization’s specific needs and locations.

  • "Story-based learning can be utilized by anyone and any age to elevate their learning, impact, and communication across all endeavors as a student, teacher, executive, or community member. It has notably enhanced my listening for both colleagues and family and given me the tools to assist in fostering deeper understanding and a more attentive presence in my community."

  • "Story-Based Learning centers each individual's experience and especially the knowledge contained within their body and invites each person to participate in building a trusting community. By activating people's thinking, feeling and full-bodies through movement, Story-Based Learning creates an exceptional receptivity to exploring difficult topics and communicating beyond one's capacity for words."

  • "The biggest impression AFP left on me through their workshops is the simple yet profound message that everyone matters and every story matters and can make a difference if it is told. Working with children who have been rejected, neglected, abandoned, abused, I’m not sure anyone had ever said something like that to them. Watching them become confident, united, enthusiastic and respectful children throughout the workshop was beautiful to see—a big change in a very short time. I strongly feel this tool can go a long way in bringing healing to broken children and purpose to their stories."
